Contrapose Dance was founded in 2008 out of a desire to present new, exciting and entertaining works that engage and thrill audiences. This Cambridge-based repertory company presents modern, contemporary and balletic works designed to plumb deep emotions and celebrate the exhilaration of pure movement. Contrapose Dance aims to bring a continued fresh energy to the theater scene in Boston and beyond by commissioning innovative works, collaborating with unique artists and producing high quality dance art.

Contrapose Dance is excited to present three pieces from their original repertory. Courting the Hippogriff, is a charming solo by local master choreographer Marcus Schulkind. It is grounded in the modern dance aesthetic and swoops pleasantly through the space. The Space Between is a work-in-progress by Courtney Peix exploring the beauty and joy of relationships. Tidal, also a new work by Courtney Peix, is inspired by the flocking theme of ArtBeat. Four dancers sway, jump, roll, and run in a playful mix of the seemingly randomness and order of flocking.

Courtney Peix is a choreographer, dancer, dance teacher, and founder and artistic director of Contrapose Dance. Having trained under Anthony Williams, Wayne Stewarte, Margot Parsons, Dean Vollick, and Marcus Schulkind, she has performed with many local dance companies, including Chambers Ballet Company, Boston Dance Company, Margot Parsons Dance Company, and Sokolow Now!, the Anna Sokolow Archival Company. Courtney’s choreography has been referred to as “skillfully crafted” and “coolly abstract.” A graduate of Stonehill College, she continues to actively develop Contrapose Dance and teaches ballet at several area schools.
