About the Artist
Corey Jajoe is a Somerville-based digital photographer whose work is inspired by the subjectivity of personal perception.
Shaped by his childhood in western Massachusetts, with parents working as an Autism Counselor and a Mechanical Engineer, his creative practice reflects precision and depth. As graduate from the Isenberg School of Management in 2018 and a full-time data consultant, Corey’s unique analytical viewpoint intersects with his art, providing a distinctive understanding of the world. His work blends emotional complexity with methodical precision to explore the essence and transformative impact of individual and collective insight.
Artist Statement
In my work, I blend digital and film photography with image manipulation to examine the balance between impartial analysis and personal perspective. By employing a variety of techniques and mediums, I investigate the inherent subjectivity by interpreting our surroundings. Film photography introduces elements of unpredictability, whereas digital methods extend the limits of reality and illusion, prompting an inquiry into the veracity of visual information. This approach aims to encourage viewers to engage in a critical examination of the work and their own viewpoints. This focus highlights the significance of perception as a transformative force, influencing our comprehension and awareness.
The Red Veil Series explores these concepts-- the transient moment when sunlight shines through the capillaries of closed eyelids through a veil of red. The two intertwine, transforming our eyes into red-hued canvases where we see remnants of the outside world and our inner selves
What appears can be seen as a visual metaphor for the emotions, thoughts, and dreams that flicker behind shut eyes. This series looks at the sudden and sporadic moments when these hidden elements of us, often more present in the subconscious, come to light and dominate our conscious mind. These are the moments when we are able to quietly reflect. We surrender and let go, delving into the dichotomy of our emotional and cognitive selves.
