As the Sparrow is a folk influenced rock-swing band based around the songwriting of Mark Damon. In 2009, while majoring in Theater at Salem State University and working as a professional actor in downtown Salem, Ma, Damon decided that his heart belonged to music. After writing an album's worth of songs he teamed up with his longtime friend Kenneth Mckeen, who in the fall of 2009, flew in from Michigan after performing in the Johnny Cash musical "The Ring of Fire" on upright bass. Soon after, Leo Fonseca and Yves Francois joined the group on trumpet and percussion. In December of 2009, As the Sparrow debuted themselves at the House of Blues Front Room in Boston. Realizing that something was missing in the group, Damon reached out to Kelsey Devlin, a Berklee College of music student who had known Mark from performing in local community theater productions since elementary school. In the spring of 2010, Kelsey Devlin joined the group on violin and vocals. The last member to hop on board was Crystal Araiza. Crystal started out as the band's photographer but was asked to join after her talent on keys, banjo, flute, and ukulele became discovered. As the Sparrow is now in the process of recording their debut album with the help of Producer and Engineer, Steve Scully.
