You Are Here For Now, Dina Gjertsen 2018
This piece is about the feeling of impermanence many people living in Somerville experience right now. Old places and friends keep disappearing and are replaced by large, boxy, gray and green architecture, housing expensive dwellings few people can afford. Sometimes buildings seem to vanish overnight, and the visual textures and personal signifigance they gave to the city leave as well. To me this means that any place, and any moment, in Somerville, feels temporary. I wanted to do a site specific model in a phone box and encourage the viewer to think about the idea that this moment, right now, might be the last moment they get to stand in this place. I fully expect the environment around the phone box to change, and no longer resemble the model in some aspects before the phone box itself is ultimately removed by the same forces it addresses.
