The Inside-OUT Gallery’s current exhibit, features Roy Pardi uses various drawing techniques to push boundaries of painting. The colorful bobs of orange and green playfully marry the traditional and technical, resulting in a mesmerizing matrix of light and color.
In these two series of sketches: “Orange: NETWORKS and Green: Blobs”, Roy Pardi uses electronics and programmed LED patterns, combined with traditional painting and drawing media, to explore simple animated forms and shapes. Exposed wires, smudged charcoal and glowing lights contrast ways of suggesting movement; the physical wires overlay drawn lines, becoming part of the image.
As a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art, Roy Pardi has used this interactive process throughout his career. To see his work first-hand, visit his studio at Vernon Street during Somerville Open Studios.
